Details

This is a difficult loop hike on the old railroad bed that went over Tennessee Pass before the tunnel was cut in.  The narrow gauge route was cut in 1881 and served the D&RG until the first of two standard gauge routes were cut in 200 ft below in 1890.  This old narrow gauge route serves as a wonderful easy snowshoe with many trail options to the sides.  We will then loop back using the Mitchell Creek trail system, which has some sustained climbing on snow making the trip difficult and long. We will avoid avalanche terrain.  This trip is primarily intended for Pikes Peak and Pueblo Group members.  All others will be waitlisted.  Nat Geo Map 109.  300mi.  8/800’.  Register with leader.  Eric Hunter ehuntercmc@gmail.com or (719) 266-9647.
