We will begin this trip at Glacier Gorge Trailhead, hence the early start. We will snowshoe up the summer trail to the Mills Lake/ Loch Vale trail junction. From the junction I would like to proceed up the Icy Brook Gorge winter trail to Loch Vale. We will then cross Loch Vale and proceed to Embryo Lake. Embyo Lake is a shallow pond at the foot of Thatchtop Mountain. We will then retrace our steps back to Loch Vale. From Loch Vale, we will leave the trail and continue off trail toward Seredipity Pond. If the weather (i.e. wind) cooperates, we will ascend Middle Glacier Knob and enjoy the stunning views from the summit. We will then descend down and continue to Seredipity Pond. We will then proceed down and intersect the winter trail back to the Glacier Gorge trailhead. If you are uncomfortable with off trail trekking, this may not be your trip.
For those wishing to use microspikes for the begining of this trip you should be OK. However, snowshoes will be required once we cross Loch Vale toward Embryo Lake and for the rest of the trip. So, you MUST have a way to attach your snowshoes to your pack. Hand carrying your snowshoes is NOT an option.
Further information concerning meet up location, etc. will follow a couple days prior to the trip. If you have any questions, please don't wait and contact me via email trout.bill@gmail.com
