THIS TRIP IS LIMITED TO FULLY VACCINATED MEMBERS ONLY. CARPOOL DRIVERS HAVE THE OPTION TO REQUIRE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE CAR WHERE A MASK.
Watch for a last minute change in venue due to snow conditions!
Snowshoeing is almost as easy as walking. We recommend you do NOT buy snowshoes before this clinic. Borrow some or rent a pair at REI or your local mountain store, get snow baskets (usually the same brand) to fit your hiking poles, be sure your hiking boots are waterproof, add some high gaiters, and you will be good to go.
This clinic is for CMC members who have NEVER SNOWSHOED BEFORE (or have had only bad experiences ;-).
IF YOU HAVE BEEN ON A “TRY SNOWSHOES” OR CMC "BEGINNER SNOWSHOE" TRIP BEFORE, please wait until the day before the trip date to sign up, in order to reserve scarce places for true newbies. There are plenty of regular snowshoe trips on the calendar. If you are nervous about that, be sure to speak to the leader before the trip and to your fellow ‘shoers at the TH. Everyone will want to be sure you have a good time.
Meet in front of The Fort Restaurant,19192 CO-8, Morrison, CO 80465.
We will drive south on Hwy 285 approximately 17 miles to Elk Creek Rd/Shaffer's Crossing. Follow Elk Creek Rd to the Park entry. (If you have a State Park Pass, please volunteer to drive, if not carpool will share $10 park entry fee). Enter the Park and park to the right, in the Mason Creek Lot.
After TH orientation, we will snowshoe out about three miles (a bit further to Catamount Point if everyone in the group is up for it), have a snack, and then return the way we came.

In addition to snowshoes, please bring the 10 essentials appropriate to the weather and a guided day trip:
If you haven't yet re-provisioned your pack for winter sports, consider these items:
I will send out an email a day or two before with trail conditions. Do not assume bad weather means the trip is canceled. We only cancel if the roads are treacherous. We just try to dress appropriately.
The approximate 40-mile round trip will require a contribution from each passenger to the driver. 40 miles x .30 = $13 per car, to be split equally between all people in the car, including the driver. Please bring small bills to reimburse your driver.
Students, please send any feedback, suggestions or comments to cmcbeginnerss@gmail.com.
