Intro to hiking safety course

From Hiking Beginner to Summiting a High Peak

The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Series is an opportunity to make new friends, explore more of Colorado's hiking trails, and increase you hiking speed and stamina.

We’ll even offer a couple of High Peak climbs just for AH Participants at the end of the season!

Hikes start off easy and gradually progress in length and difficulty so  you're ready to tackle new challenges by the end of the summer.

No cost or big commitment. You can jump in or out anytime since all other hikes are posted as regular trips.

If you'd like to participate, please read the 2022 Ascending Hikes Member Guide.

2022 Schedule

Need to Know #1

  • This is a popular program.  If there is a wait list, join it.  Wait lists almost always clear.

Need to Know #2:

  • Please DO NOT sign up for an Ascending Hike trip unless you fully intend to participate on trip day.
  • DO NOT sign up for more than one trip while you “decide which one to take.”
    • Your Trip Leader and AH Coordinators put a lot of effort into planning this program.  Last minute cancellations and no-shows are very discouraging and, insufficient numbers may jeopardize the program.  SO, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AN AH TRIP UNLESS YOU FULLY INTEND TO PARTICIPATE ON TRIP DAY!  (Actually, this is true for any CMC trip.)

Need to Know #3:  Attending a single Ascending Hike once a week likely will NOT provide the results you want.

  • You need to hike a challenging trip at least twice a week.

Need to Know #4:  The AH Hikers Need to Act as a Team.

  • It’s especially important on AH trips that everyone on the hike pay attention to the group's needs.  If a roster member is much slower or faster than the others, the leader should be alerted to discuss what’s happening, so the member does not feel embarrassed, frustrated, or want to abandon the program.  (Again, this is true for any CMC trip.)

Here is a complete list of Ascending Hikes.

To sign up, see the 2022 Trip List, visit the CMC calendar and search keyword "ascending". The trips are generally held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from May through September. All trips are posted but note, each hike is available for registration only 10 days ahead of the hike date to control “roster churn.”
