The Pikes Peak Group, headquartered in Colorado Springs was formed May 6, 1919 and celebrated their 100th birthday in 2019! The Group offers a variety of outdoor activities, educational opportunities, and social events.
Trips are scheduled each month throughout the year. Guided by experienced leaders, these trips are designed to accommodate all age and skill levels. Activities include hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing, cross-country and downhill skiing, cycling, and many other outdoor activities in which members are interested.
The group provides a wide range of training and educational opportunities:
Our Basic Mountaineering School is comprised of two tracks, each with three courses:
Wilderness Trekking – Fundamentals, Land Navigation, Backpacking
Alpine Mountaineering – Alpine Snow, Rock Climbing, Ice Climbing
Our High Altitude Mountaineering School prepares mountaineers to go beyond the 14ers – higher altitudes, glacier travel, international trips
Additional clinics offer scrambling, mountain biking, avalanche awareness, winter wilderness survival, snowshoeing, Nordic and backcountry skiing, wilderness first aid… and more!
Conservation and preservation of our natural resources and scenery are a high priority, and many activities are scheduled in which to volunteer your help.
Monthly meetings feature speakers presenting regional activities, local history, and trips to exotic places. In May we get together for a potluck dinner, and in November we celebrate our members with an annual dinner.
