As backcountry skiing becomes more and more popular, it is more important than ever to have an education and enforcement presence in the Colorado mountains to help ensure safe and responsible recreation.  The CMC Snow Ranger program supports a team on the Ouray & Grand Valley Ranger Districts in Western Colorado to assist in patrolling, visitor education, user counts, partnership development and more.  The snow rangers primarily focused their efforts in the Red Mountain Pass area and Grand Mesa, as well as the Cimarron Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau.

In 2022, the Snow Ranger Program will be featured in the Backcountry Film Festival shown across Colorado and the country.  Watch the film trailer and find a screening near you to support the program!

Check out our BSI Film!

In 2017, Wool Hat Creative produced a film about the Colorado Mountain Club's BSI program called, "Human Power: The Backcountry Snowsports Initiative".  It was selected into the Backcountry Film Festival for 2018. It showcases the partnerships and hard work that goes into protecting the Colorado backcountry for human powered use. This work will ensure that future generations will enjoy it as much as we do now.
