Thank you for your interest in leading trips for youth! We are excited to build a team of dedicated Youth Summit Trip Leaders that can help our Colorado Families Section and our other YEP offerings serve more Colorado youth.

Before you go any further into these details, please note that this position requires quite a bit of upfront training. It is also only open to active CMC members. You must complete the general CMC Trip Leader training before completing the youth trainings below.

Here is an overview of what you would do and what we are looking for:

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead trips for youth. These can either be leading on an existing YEP trip or organizing your own trips for families with youth.
  • Mitigate and manage risk and behavior during trips
  • Prepare activities, materials, and equipment for programs. Clean up program areas (if applicable).
  • Check out and return any required materials from YEP
  • Facilitate a positive, fun learning environment and group culture
  • Participate in pre-trip and post-trip meetings and debriefs with staff (when leading on a YEP trip)
  • Complete a trip log after your trip (when leading independently)

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Become a General Trip Leader as described here
  • Complete Youth Trip Leader checklist (contact YEP staff for details)
  • Ability to provide personal transportation to and from trip locations
  • Comfortable working with school-age children and adults of all backgrounds
  • Positive attitude and sense of humor
  • Self-driven, organized, and punctual

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with youth and families
  • Experience organizing and leading trips
  • Spanish speaking skills are highly desired, but not necessary

Time Commitment & Benefits

  • Youth Summit Trip Leaders are expected to lead at least 5 trips per calendar year (self-directed or in partnership with YEP)
  • Volunteers who commit to this role are eligible for all trip leader benefits
  • This is an unpaid volunteer position
