Events and Programs

Contact: Anita Wright

The Northern Coloardo Group hosts monthly programs, a winter potluck, a summer BBQ and an annual dinner. These events are an opportunity to socialize, discuss past and present adventures, make friends with other Northern Coloardo Group members and learn something new! Other than the Annual Dinner, these events are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

The monthly programs feature a guest speaker that presents on a topic related to the outdoors or recreation. These are held in January, March, April, May, September and October.

The Winter Potluck features presentations given by members on their outings, experiences, or learnings. The Summer BBQ is all about fun in the sun. There is not a presenter, just good friends and food. Lastly, the Annual Dinner is the time to recognize contributions made by the group's leaders, discuss policy as needed and enjoy a guest speaker program.

Annual Dinner

Saturday, 9 Nov 2019:

Vince Anderson is a professional mountaineer and ski guide, and in 1998, became the 7th American to be certified through the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA). This is the highest level of certification available to mountain guides worldwide. Vince also trains mountain guides for the American Mountain Guides Association. Vince earns his living guiding clients on alpine, rock climbing and skiing adventures around Colorado, the Canadian Rockies, the Alps, Alaska, the Himalaya, the Karakoram and the Andes.

Vince recently ascended Jirishanca in Peru (20,098’), a difficult climb including 30+ pitches. The dramatic change in conditions of the upper portion of this mountain due to melting glaciers made the climb increasingly more dangerous and significantly different than the first ascent in 1957.

Vince Anderson and climbing partner, Steve House, completed a new route on the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat (26,660', world's 9th highest) in alpine style without oxygen in eight days during September of 2005. The two were awarded the Piolet d'or (Golden Ice Ax) award for their efforts, (the first time for any North Americans). In 2008, Vince and Steve completed numerous other alpine climbs, including the first ascent of K7 West in Pakistan and a new route on the North Face of Mount Alberta in the Canadian Rockies.

This will be a very special annual dinner as we enjoy an inspiring presentation by Chairman Gordan Thibedeau’s nephew, Vince Anderson!

Time:  Social/Cash Bar at 6:00 p.m., Dinner at 6:30 p.m., Meeting at 7:30 p.m., Presentation at 8:00 p.m.
