The Denver CMC Photography Section is open to all ages and skill levels. Our activities include conducting specific hikes for photography opportunities, and meetings to learn more about a wide variety of photographic subjects and display personal and club work. Periodic trips to take advantage of photographic opportunities and social events round out the Photography Section's current offerings. Hikes are scheduled year round. They are conducted at a casual pace and include planned and unplanned stops to spend time taking photographs. Hikes and outings are listed in the trip schedule. The monthly meeting typically consists of two portions. The first segment is a presentation on a photography topic, with discussion and questions encouraged to facilitate the exchange of ideas. This is followed by a review and critique of images from the section membership. Each month there is a theme for the images submitted, frequently the theme relates to a recent field trip or hike. Come and meet us at 7:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the American Mountaineering Center (710 10th St, Golden) and bring your experience and ideas to the mix. Recent presentations and discussions at the meetings have covered such topics as: Basics of Composition, Cameras and Equipment Selection, Organizing and Storing Photos, Adobe Lightroom Basics, Presentation of Your Work (including selling and marketing your photography, Photography in Snow, Histograms, How Do You Approach Taking a Photograph, Underwater Photography, Creative Use of Light, Editing Your Photographs, Building a Portfolio, and Color Theory. Some of the photographic themes we have explored include: Snow, Trees, Sky and Night Photography, Wildlife, Macro, Fall Colors, Rock Formations, Waterfalls and Lakes, Underwater and Water Reflections, Concepts (portraying an emotion, idea or concept in a photograph), Winter Scenes, and Landscapes. Section dues are $20 / year in addition to CMC membership. You will receive a bimonthly newsletter listing our many activities. Additional information can be obtained from the section chair Dan Orcutt or on the Denver group site.
