Eckart Roder Education Fund

History

The Eckart Roder Education Fund was established in 2003 in honor of Eckart Roder, a long-time member of the Colorado Mountain Club. Eckart exemplified the values of mountain safety, responsibility and courtesy. The Roder Fund seeks to honor his legacy by providing financial support to any CMC member, school, section, or aspiring member who shares his passion for hands-on education and service. Donations to the fund are tax-deductible and accepted any time of year.

Application Criteria

Applications are considered for any project that emphasizes mountain safety, responsibility, and/or courtesy. Preference will be given to those who do not qualify for the Leadership Scholarship. The application period is from November 15 - December 31.

Examples of projects that fit the fund’s focus areas include but are not limited to: instructor skills training, leadership training, developing curriculum or providing role models for young mountaineers, CMC School scholarships or seed funding to start a new educational program for members or underprivileged youth.

Grants will be awarded in February with the expectation that recipients complete their project by late fall. Awardees are asked to complete a written report and give a brief presentation about their funded project at the annual Eckart Roder Education Fund dinner.

Award Range

The Roder Fund will grant a total of $2,500 in 2022 in memory of Eckart Roder. This is a competitive grant, and it is possible that not all applicants will receive awards. Awards will typically range from $250 to $1,400.
