Gudy's love for adventure was truly infectious to friends and family, and her dedication of time toward the issues and projects she was passionate about serves as an example to all of us as CMC members. With her passion and vision she led the 1974 CMC's Hut's and Trails Committee and was subsequently asked to lead the effort to create the Colorado Trail. Through her persistence and grit, the Colorado Trail was completed in 1987 and stretches nearly 500 miles, traverses six wilderness areas, eight mountain ranges and links Denver to Durango.
She led the Colorado Trail Foundation as president for 12 years and was inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002. Through the efforts of State Senator Lucia Guzman, on March 20, 2017, Governor John W. Hickenlooper and the State of Colorado paid tribute to her far reaching accomplishments with the proclamation and dedication of Gudrun “Gudy” Gaskill Day. Her work in the mountains will last for generations and will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Coloradans.
