Winter Ecology
Avalanche Safety
6th Grade
Math 3.1 Visual displays and summary statistics on one-variable data condense the information in data sets into usable knowledge.
Science 3.1 Complex interrelationships exist between Earth’s structure and natural processes that over time are both constructive and destructive.
7th Grade
Math 4.2 Linear measure, angle measure, area, and volume are fundamentally different and require different units of measurement.
8th Grade
Math 4.2 Direct and indirect measurement can be used to describe and make comparisons.
Science 1.3 Distinguish between physical and chemical changes, noting that mass is conserved during any change.
Science 3.1 Weather is a result of complex interactions of Earth’s atmosphere, land, and water, that are driven by energy from the sun and can be predicted and described through complex models.
Math 3.1 Visual displays and summary statistics condense the information in data sets to usable knowledge.
Math 3.3 Probability models outcomes for situations in which there is inherent randomness.
Science 1.4 Atoms bond in different ways to form molecules and compounds that have definite properties.
Science 3.4 Climate is the result of energy transfer among interactions of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere.
Science 3.5 There are costs, benefits, and consequences of exploration, development, and consumption of renewable and nonrenewable resources.
Science 3.6 The interaction of Earth’s surface with water, air, gravity, and biological activity causes physical and chemical changes.
Science 3.7 Natural hazards have local, national, and global impacts such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and thunderstorms.
Upon registering for your program, you will receive a confirmation with your program contract, other essential info, and student liability waivers.
As part of your child’s field trip, they will be snowshoeing at a local Open Space, State Park, or Forest Service land. We will be outside for the entire program (3-6 hours) and playing in the snow so it is crucial your child come prepared for the day.
YEP will provide snowshoes and can supplement waterproof gear and warm layers as necessary, including waterproof shoes. Let us know upon registration if you need to borrow any gear.
Please ensure your child is prepared for the trip with the following:
