Geology of

Climbing

 

 

Discover what rock types are good for climbing. Review the rock cycle as well as learn about different climbing areas and rock types throughout the state. Then, try out climbing on our mobile bouldering bus or indoor rock climbing wall.

In our geology of climbing program, students will:

  • Participate in hands-on activities to learn about the rock cycle and observe/identify rock types
  • Make observations on the characteristics of rocks to identify if they are good for climbing
  • Apply knowledge while rock climbing

 

Academic Standards & Additional Resources

 

Suggested Grades: 2-5

 

Group Size: 10-30 students

 

Available: Year-Round (Fall & Spring with Bouldering Bus)

 

Length: 50 min-2 hours 

 

Location: at your school or American Mountaineering Center
